Can someone share its culture and pay? Does it have top engineers like FAANG? #panw #paloaltonetworks

It was great before, now it's as bad as AWS, for 🥜 pay

AT&T AT&Tis🗑️ Mar 5, 2023

Not great now

Don’t except faang level compensation. Senior engineers are who are hilariously titled principal makes around 300-350k while staff titled senior principal can get 450-500 k for reference. Culture is not great bad ex Cisco middle management in most orgs and low wlb. Talent depends - some great some not so great . There are few - relatively few who left faang to join Palo Alto . The only good thing is the stock and the fact that theres been no rumors of layoffs yet - but of course that is subject to change .

May not pay as much as some FAANG companies - but compensation is competitive. Rest of the experience would be very dependent on the org you are interested in. In Prisma access - the work life balance is terrible - and everyone is overworked. Onboarding process can be hard because it is hard to find anyone who has the time to help you. Overall I don’t find the culture friendly, nurturing or kind - it is all about the performance- and there is a lot of competition. Some people thrive in this environment- depends. I find that the culture is very hierarchical (Asian/Indian culture) - where there are a lot of management levels - and each level is a little subservient to the next .. The company is currently doing really well - and there is a lot of focus and money going to the Prisma access org. The people I work with are extremely good at what they do — and I find there is a lot to learn from them in the rare occasions where I can get their help. There is a lot of innovation - and company works to use the latest industry standards etc - so definitely a good learning experience. Another plus point for me is: if you are not a people manager - you can be completely remote.

Are u sure about the being remote strategy? Are u in the engineering? As far as I’ve heard it might be hard to convert to remote if u are in engineering.

I was not hired as a remote employee - what I mean is - since the pandemic - nobody on my team has been asked to stop working from home so far. Yes I am in engineering. Their RTO policy might change - but so far only managers have been asked to come in three days a week. So regular engineers like me can still wfh .. however I was hired as a non-remote full time employee before the pandemic started .

How is wlb for management role?

Cisco bagarbilla Mar 6, 2023

Does any one know about stock refreshers?

Culture varies a lot by team. SASE is fastest growing and can be demanding. Tech stack has lots of complexity which presents good learning opportunities, but can also be a headache

Hrenbli got it about right. Compensation (unless you got doubled up by getting acquired) is probably 75% tile. They target that so if you’re legit a top performer or engineer you can definitely command a better price somewhere else. A lot of 75 percentile engineers out there that do good work and are happy with the comp here though. Culture is fine. Standard big company culture mostly. Nothing particularly toxic. Performance management is on the easy side. You can only get fired if you’re really incompetent. Perks are not great though. The offices besides hq are not that nice.

I’ll be honest - I love most of the people I work with and rarely come across people who make me wonder how they hold down a job. I’d recommend if it weren’t for the RTO four days a week that seems to be looming
