Is a Partner at Microsoft equivalent to a VP? Is so, why is there a separate title? How to get to the Partner level? What's the typical TC?
Typical TC is above 1 million. At partner level, most people don’t want to leave unless they are pushed out.
I don’t know man. I used to think they were really big but see many partners have less than 80 reports in azure engineering. They seem to be paid more than half a mill going by title but mill would be reserved for a very few
Think law firm partner. Old school title. Generally partner is in eng orgs and GM is in biz orgs.
Some really senior engineering managers (like 25+ years) have Partner in their titles. Not sure what needs to be done to get that title...even the inventor of Python just joined Microsoft doesn’t have a Partner title.
Partner refers to specific levels, and is separate from management role (director, gm, etc). The inventor of Python, Guido van Rossum, is a Distinguished Engineer (L70), which is higher than Partner (L68-69).

VP comes after Partner bruh
Whoa. But why would the title be Partner and not Sr. VP or President? Is the Partner title for engineers only?
