I have 3.5 years experience and I’m a level 61 at Microsoft. I feel like I’m getting snubbed if Google tries to hire me at L3- the same level they hire on new grads Is this common?
Google is known to downlevel in general . So considering L60 is the level new grads come in at MSFT , L3 seems appropriate . However this does not mean that you’ll have to take a pay cut . Google generally beats your current comp despite downleveling .
Well you start at 59, but your point sense. If they can still hit my comp expectations I guess I won’t care
Not quite true, interns that perform well and master graduates start at 60
Wait a year and try again for L4 would be my suggestion. It's weird how every other company would interview you at SDE2 but Google won't. You then go to those companies (fb, Uber, Airbnb, Amazon) at that level, and then you see that Google suddenly considers you for that L4.
Won't happen... Better check how and if you can move inside google to L4
Same case with me. I was L5 at Amazon (yoe:3.5) and was expecting L4 at Google. They offered me L3. Though my base took a hit, my overall CTC grew and was more than expected :p I took the offer..
do you mind sharing what your offer package was? Stock price at Msft has tripled since I joined. As a result I’m paid pretty highly and I’m skeptical google will be able to beat it as an L3 offer
I am in India, so my numbers would be different. (Assuming you are in bay area)
Most people with less than 4 years of experience get L3 unless they have a PhD.
Whats the tc they offered?
How's the offer like? I have seen people switching from 61,62 to L3 Levels and job roles mean different things at different companies. As long as you are not comprising on money it's not a demotion
I’ll have to wait and see, as I don’t have my offer yet (still in team matching). I guess this is true though. I am expecting that they won’t meet my TC expectations now, but I don’t know for sure.
Share those details when you have them Think about what are your goals because google opens many opportunities, may be can move to different location with better TC Try some good startups as well
