Hi folks, got confirmation that Apple wants to move forward and offer me a job. They asked what I wanted for base salary, stocks, sign-in bonus... I've 10 years experience (Dev and pm) at Microsoft. What is reasonable at that level in the Bay area (I'll be relocating). Thanks!
10 yrs experience should probably get more TC. A base of 180-200 seems basic. TC should be about 300+ IMO
This is not SWE
But engineering still...
What you ask for depends on what YOU need to live here. Single or married? Single or joint income? Kids? 10 years experience I would say Base around $200k, sign on $30k+, RSU around $150-200k over 4 years.
Wtf- RSU around 200k? I was reached out by by a recruiter and seems I shouldn’t even have a conversation with them with these stats
For what role?
Checkout California Assembly Bill No. 168 or related news articles. You can request the pay range from them.
Thanks all! It helped give me a better idea. I'm single income + 2 kids to answer above question.
Yep, if they are in Cali, they can’t ask it
They can’t ask what you make but they can ask what you expect for comp.
Take your current comp, do the cost of living adjustment using several calculators and decide what % more it takes to move you. Do the same for unvested stock. Compare with Glassdoor and here to ensure you aren’t selling yourself short
Don’t give expectation. Let them make the first offer.. 2 benefits: 1. If offer is too low, you know it’s no point negotiating further 2. If offer is good enough or even better than what you expected you know that there is always room to further negotiate. Also, since they have interviewed and liked you, they are invested in you (time wise and recruiting $$ wise) and want you to join. You are now negotiating from a position of strength. Have a goal in mind and negotiate further. Remember negotiations can be over multiple rounds. Just negotiate in good faith and provide valid justification.
This is the real answer. The first party to give a number loses.
Which Org you got the job in?
Which org? What ICT Level? 4? 5? I’d definitely force their hand and have them make an offer. Or, make up a competing offer from another company you’ve “also been interviewing with” and pump your requirements however you see fit. If you’re looking for numbers, 190-230k base / 35-50k sign on / 175-225k RSU. Also, if you’re relocating, make sure you get the best possible relocation package, as it comes with some additional cash (I got about $15k total) and the assistance of a realtor, moving expenses totally covered, etc. - Former SR. Did you quote this range for ICT4 or ICT5?
