Trying to see how much i need to earn if i move to bay area. Currently earning 100k as sr. software engineer
Are you planning to move here by yourself? Do you mind living with other people or are you looking for your own place? How often do you go out? There are a number of different factors that go into the cost of living in the Bay Area
My own place. Go out most weekends.
140k total comp could get you comfortable in san fran.
Don't live there but stories of 5k/month rent are not unheard of.
Average for 2 room is 5k
Would i get 200k in Bay Area which everybody is talking about here?
If you're a real senior then more if you include RSU which is real money if you go to a publicly traded company. Could even get that in just cash (base+bonus) at the right place if you're strong.
Add 30% to your current salary, that will equalize cost of living + additional taxes if any.
30%? No way. That is just not enough, rent is crazy high over here.
You need to know where you want to live. It can be cheaper.
I would say min 50% bump in the salary.
minimum 500K
I'd agree with EtherAum. A 50% bump taking you to 150k base will be good. RSUs and bonus can take you beyond or close to 200.
You can move into east bay to save rent
The biggest difference is housing, and you should expect living in a city to be different if you want the city life. Go on Craigslist and look at some places, then add that to your existing salary minus existing housing cost for a reasonable starting point.
at least 800k a yr, unless you wanna be homeless and die from starvation. at least that's what Blind told me
hahaha
or you could start selling internal organs
