Hi, Folks at PayPal and others with relevant info, can you please share your thoughts on the following offer? Role is at Manager-2 level (work similar to product mgmt) Offer: 160K base + 80K RSUs (over 3 years) + 15% performance bonus +7.5K relo Background: 8 years work exp, 6 years at top-tier consulting, MBA from a global top 25 college One more thing - how long does it generally take to move from Manager-2 to Sr. Manager role? Please also share your inputs on work culture and career growth at PayPal. Based on my interview experience: Pros: Company is in growth mode (and not focused on cost-cutting) Culture seemed collaborative and decently-paced (would not really call it fast-paced from bay area standards) Stock price has done great over last one year - the move the "partnership strategy / platform focus" seems to be working well for them Cons: A lot of legacy code and architecture (technical debt) Slow to adapt new tech There have been a lot of re-org recently
What's 6yrs at top tier consulting? Management consulting? Accenture type IT consulting? Is that on top of your 8yrs of experience?
Since it’s prod manager kind of role, I think the offer is ok. For SE Manager 2, that would be shitty offer.
Is this engineering manager or product manager role ??
Engineering Manager
Is that 80K worth of RSU, or 80k RSUs? A world of difference between them
Its for level 26; it is a people management role The role is a mix of product and technology; I was tested on algorithms and coding (though not deeply) 8 years work exp includes the 6 years of consulting (not IT consulting) More questions:- Can anyone talk about work culture and career growth at paypal? If the offer is not reasonable, what should i be asking for? Generally, what are the RSUs at this level?
Culture depends on your org and team but in general the culture is pretty good... typical bay area kind of company with lots of freedom and decent perks. Don't compare with FAANG companies both in terms of pay and perks. The vision is clear for the near future & is focusing to expand so there is good chance for you to grow.
Work culture — depends on the team. Which team are you going to? What do you mean by growth — technical, managerial, t-levels or maturity?
On your offer — it’s a low 26 offer. Not the best, but decent. Did it meet your expectations?
Btw, remember RSUs are 3 year vests at Paypal
You should ask for 180k base plus > 100k worth of RSU. Paypal is a great company to work with. Although the experience might vary from group2group.
IMHO That's on a high end for T26 so unless the candidate does extremely well and ideally should have been T27 it's difficult to get such TC at PP
True this is a very generous l26 offer
How are you going to address the slow to adapt to new tech?
Leave him alone..he's done interviewing...already has an offer 🤣
