Is PayPal having a midlife crisis? Their stock's taken a nosedive! Back in 2021, they were strutting at 300+, but now? Not so much. PayPal's no longer the prom king of online payments; it's like a crowded high school dance, and everyone's trying to bust a move in the payment space! TC : 450K #personalfinance #investments
Wallets killed PayPal. And their merchants are all too happy to drop them due to their high fees.
Stripe, what was your last valuation? And did you post a profit yet? PayPal is still strong in its numbers and balance sheet no. 1 volume in terms of bnpl wallets are killing the old business model but there is lot going on need to wait for positive news to come out.
That may be so. I use Paypal myself and live in Germany, where Paypal has by far the highest penetration. I just don't see anything in Paypal's future that would get me excited about its prospects. Personally, I just use Paypal to get money from friends and contacts if I pay for something in advance. SaaS platforms are all too keen to scrap Paypal support because Paypal won't allow them to monetize Payments. Your BNPL might be nice, but making money from BNPL is a challenge in itself. Especially without a fancy App like Klarna. Just check affirm, afterpay and all the others. Does anyone actually make money? Hyperwallet seems to have been a failure. Zettle doesn't seem very present, compared to SumUp for example, which is everywhere. Now Paypal is starting to cooperate with other Wallets, further eroding the moat. I'm not hating or anything. I just don't see what Paypal has going for it. And the market obviously agrees.
Similar drops across all fintechs (Block, Affirm, etc.) seem to indicate issues with the sector as a whole. When different businesses/strategies/tech stacks/leadership all end up in the same boat, it’s something else.
PayPal folks, I've got to hand it to you, folks, your optimism is as bright as a supernova! Defending your company is non-negotiable, but let's face it, the most groundbreaking thing PayPal rolled out recently was that crypto coin or whatever it is 😂. Anyhoo, best of luck, folks! May the innovation odds be ever in your favor!
This earnings wasn’t bad. Their fundamentals look good other than the stalled user growth.
