hello everyone, i wanted some opinions on which offer to choose. I graduated last december so I'm a new grad. Paypal (San Jose, SWE 2): - Base: 135K - relo: 7.5K -sign on: 13.5K - rsu: 45K for 3 years, so 15K/year - target incentive: 13.5K => based on this: 184.5K AWS (East Palo Alto, L4): - Base: 148.4K - relo: 7k - rsu + sign on average: 55.5K/year => based on this: 210.9K for backgroud, I interned at AWS last summer, was supposed to start this Feb full time as a return offer but they delayed me to August and my team & location got switched. My offer is still on the table though. with luck, i recently got an offer from PayPal as well, and it definitely seems to have good wlb, culture, and the manager seems to like me. Here are some of my thoughts so far: Why I should choose PayPal 1) Better work life balance and culture 2) Manager seems to be an amazing mentor 3) I was told if my H1b doesn't get picked til my last try, they will sponsor GC (i am not sure about Amazon's policy on this - i heard they will send the employee to canada or some international office to bring them back with L1. does any one know how hard is it to get GC sponsorship with AWS?) 4) as an international student, higher job security than AWS since no PIP/URA Why I should not choose PayPal 1) AWS has much higher TC 2) AWS will have more name value in my resume 3) i will probably learn more in AWS - saw some post about PayPal that i won't learn much there and a lot of people are trying to leave (?). i'm not sure how true this is. any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated!!!! It’s your choice, it depends on your mental strength and fortitude. Being at AWS while on visa is not a decision I’d take without thinking about it a lot. If money and career matters to you more than visa safety and a comfortable life, then do it. It depends on what you value.
If u want WLB then PayPal otherwise amazn. Amzn looks way better on ur resume down the line in ur career
I never actually thought blind would vote for anything but TC.
Amazon is a terrible company and AWS is run terribly when compared to rest of the company. I would pick PayPal every day of the week, unless you strongly believe that having AWS will have some value on your resume and that the TC boost outweighs the severe lack of WLB and mental health support that you would receive by working at Amazon. Focus on getting the GC, then go to Amazon if you so desire. However, I wouldn’t put my status in the country at the mercy of a toxic company like Amazon. TC: 90K

What is your country of birth op? PayPal policy is actually no gc until h1b. They don’t do it on F1
PayPal over AWS any day. In this economy your want stability and balance over higher $ and toxicity, as long as the offer is doable and solid for you. Don’t agree that Amazon as a name is the most important thing. PayPal is a very recognizable name, even if it’s not the biggest or trendiest. PP stuff seems to be picking up. Make sure your get everything in writing, including the visa policy/offer.
Yeah I can confirm great wlb on PayPal. If you can choose to work at Venmo that would be great, since the eng culture is pretty good
How about the recent layoffs in PayPal? Was there any in Engineering ?
@Mabbu Yeah a lot. PayPal is cutting costs right now and doing massive hires in México. Lot of good seniors comrades were let go. However a SWE 2 position should be fine as we just hired one in my team
Wont learn much in PayPal. Im here since a year and half. Dis not learn much. Small small work to do. No cloud. Everything is automated
Was at PayPal. People were great but talent and growth not so much. As a fresh grad I’d choose aws. Go to PayPal when you want a comfortable and stable job.
