Paytm vs Discovery Inc. [India]
Hi, I am working at Discovery right now. Tc:24lpa. I got a call from Paytm HR yesterday for experienced backend engineering role. Interviews went quite well and I am expecting an offer by Monday. Do not know the numbers yet. Do you think it will be wise to join Paytm instead of Discovery (it is undergoing a merger next year with Warner Bros which could possibly make it the largest OTT platform globally in a few years). Also, what should I set as my expectation in the compensation from Paytm. My YOE is 1.5 yrs. Plus, on a sidenote, I am being shifted to Devops and Infra side in Discovery which I joined here as a backend engineer. Don't know if that's going to be a permanant case. Which org in paytm? Paytm will provide u the opportunity to work in relatively latest tech stack and scale (team dependent), but WLB will take a hit for sure. It’s better if u can complete one more year at Discovery and then try out for sde2 equivalent role. Stay away from pg and travel org. These are the worst!
What is pg? And I was told most likely the org is going to be Payments Bank. How is it? Plus, what is title system in paytm and what is pay range for titles. What should I be expecting let's say if I was 2 YOE and had interviewed there?
And btw techstack is latest at discovery too
PayTM can turn it around but it looks unlikely at this point. Spread thin across most verticals, margins thinning with the prevalence of UPI in the one vertical they have significant market share etc etc

Yeah, that concerns me. Post IPO is a serious responsibility. I don't know if they are ready yet for the same. They are bullish about future though, I don't see why
