Hi! Which internal position would you recommend to take: A) BI People Manager : Lead a 2-3 person BI team. No change in skill set ( SQL, ETL, Tableau, Python). No change in salary. B) Data Scientist: Chance to learn Data modeling and machine learning on the job. May be 1-3% increase. Current profile: IC, 14+ years Skill set: SQL, ETL, Tableau, Python, R Edit: Added a poll #dataanalytics #data #dataanalytics #datascience #techcareer #Facebook #Meta#Amazon #palantir #Google#Twitter#splunk#salesfor#microsoft#salesforce#oracle #stripe #walmart
OP here, If you were in a similar situation and picked DS. What are you doing now and what was your transition path ?
Needles to say, DS. Even if it is possible, MLE or as a moonshot SWE. Better opportunities, more job security, higher pay…
Make it a poll, my 2 cents - take the DS profile and learn all you can in couple years and then move to a Staff DS/ DS Manager role, guarantees higher pay
Sure, added a poll. Thanks
