We just hired a software engineer who was a senior engineering manager at Meta and has been in management for more than 10 years at other FAANG companies. Total work experience is over 20 years. Without going into greater detail, yes this person is joining as an ordinary IC at Capital One. Honestly I feel sad for this person. It really shows how a career you built up over years can disappear in an instant.
It sucks but we are all in this together.
10-15 yrs at FAANG would have made that person pretty rich, and after L7 stint at Meta....looking to relax a little bit, maybe? This person can crack another high paying job if he/she is prepared to take on a new challenge.
Wonder if they’re starting a business and just use CapOne to coast at 15hrs/week to pay bills and health insurance.
stfu grammarly, dont out us
Probably sounds like he or she just wants to get back into coding instead of management and already made their money, so levels doesn't matter.
This ^ I have the same goal. Hate my manager job here at Meta, anywhere actually. I plan to retire to a regular IC role in a few years. I love coding. Never get to do it anymore. There used to be days where I would finish building a feature and when it worked flawlessly, I would get up an do a victory dance. Work used to be so much fun, of course it was stressful at times. Op will not feel sad for him if they saw their NW.
Pzj5df: are you a manager at Meta? Why not transfer to IC? Also, what aspects of management do you dislike?
That person probably has millions invested. Joined C1 at a lower level because he's getting bored and just wants some cash 🥱
It’s for insurance
If you're that rich, you can afford private insurance.
Moving down to less responsibility isn't a failure if that's what you want. Heck I'm making $500k less per year compared to 18 months ago and l work 3 hours a day (self-employed).
3 hour workday? sign me up please
How did you find your job with a 3 hour workday?
Probably just wants to move back to doing straightforward IC work because they’re burnt out on managing.
I feel sorry for you, you need to understand beyond a point Job is just to pay bills. Few like him and me don’t care if the next jump is level more !!!!!
Sounds like a person that went far enough and now they know what's important.
People not at tech companies don’t understand that going from IC to management is NOT a promotion
Majority of engineers in tech don't understand it either
Can you explain what this means?
I am in the process of doing that myself because I hate my job and hate where I work. My current WLB is making me miserable.
At TikTok?
Yes
