So you guys have tried Perplexity, the Jeff Bezos backed startup darling that’s already valued at $1b. It uses AI to provide simple, direct answers to everyday questions. It’s literally a thin wrapper on ChatGPT. My question is what’s stopping Google, MS, or even ChatGPT from providing the same sort of app on top of their AI systems. Whats the proprietary part of their service that can’t easily be replicated? TC: $380k
Perplexity is awesome for answering questions while in a call.
What's the use case?
It’s just hyped by its early investors on twitter. It will die down in a year.
Their CEO isn't taking responsibility like our CEO
I use perplexity and not chatgpt because gpt required your personal info for tracking. There's a market for people who value their privacy. Perplexity also sites the sources where they are getting their information from. So you can determine the credibility of the source.
Too many angel investors wanted to diversify beyond open AI and they didn’t have other options such as mistral back then. This thing will shutter down in less than a year.
Googles ad revenue depends on the ten blue links. If they just give you the answer, like perplexity does, it will impact their bottom line. They have to figure out how to monetize it.
Google already put gen AI results in Search today. Most those queries are not monetizable and Google ‘s ads load is lower than 20%, so it is not hard for Google just roll it out if needed.
Idk, you.com had the same features way earlier
ChatGPT also has it.. not sure what is the difference
From its search results, it seems to be a direct scrape of Google and then wrap it with LLM. What perplexes me is that they market themselves as Google challenger while basically wrapping google’s ranking. Is it a fraud?
Damn no difference. Microsoft Bing has Co-pilot and Google has Gemini that can now do the same thing easily. His just a hype guy, side not: building my own open-source perplexity to tank his crazy valuation to show people who he is. https://omniplex.vercel.app (In Dev)
Their CEO does a lot of shit talking
Examples?
Open twitter. He just tags famous people and takes a dig on other companies. Seems like a wannabe influencer
