Because it was already built in a while back when Australia and others bought it from Pfizer prior to approval. Moderna is better and has no big countries that thought they were a home run. Now the UK and others are wanting it.

Pfizer's vaccine has logistic challenges while Moderna's can be stored and transported in a normal refrigerator like all other vaccines. Moderna's can use existing supply chains even in less developed countries while Pfizer's is only viable in a handful of countries. Moderna is also more effective, had a larger study and is cheaper than Pfizer. More vaccines sales = more profit = Moderna
