Hi, I got offers from Plaid and Klaviyo for new grad roles. Plaid's in San Francisco and Klaviyo's in Boston. I'm deciding between the two and am unsure of which offer I should take - both in terms career growth and work environment. Personally I'd rather be in Boston but if career growth is significantly better at Plaid I might just move to SF. Plaid's TC: 136k base, 35k sign-on, 240k equity over 4 years. Klaviyo's TC: 126k base, 5k sign-on, 140k equity over 4 years. If I were to pick Klaviyo I'd negotiate to see if they could somewhat match Plaid's offer. Can anyone who works at either of the company pitch in on what they think of the respective companies? I feel like both are rated quite well both on Blind/Glassdoor so I'm a little torn. Thanks! #plaid #klaviyo #newgrad
Plaid valuation is at 15B $ now ?
13.8
Plaid is a no-brainer here imho
Why is that? I'm quite new to the recruiting and everything - would you say it's Plaid because of the name or industry or is it because it's just a better company? I don't know how long I'd be at a company for so I'm just curious as to why one would be better for my career growth than the other. Also, I think both companies are close to going IPO(?) so I feel like in that sense they are quite similar as well. Personally pay-wise, both are paying me well above what I'm worth lol so I'd be happy with either of the pay. Thanks so much in advance!
I know what Plaid is. I have never heard of the other company. Plaid has an actual product that feels like a monopoly in its own sphere. And lots of smart talent work at Plaid so that might be more beneficial to your career growth. I would also recommend Plaid.
I was an early employee at Klaviyo. Amazing company, you will learn a lot. They are on a good trajectory to IPO (currently valued at 9.4B). Feel free to DM me for more questions.
Just did! Thanks so much!
Hey Facebook, can I also DM you?
Took Plaid's new grad offer over Scale AI and Instabase last year, DM me if you have questions!
Thank you so much - messaged!
Where did you end up going?
Hi! I ended up going for Plaid - I realized that with the secondary market share price my TC comes to 300k. So that becomes 300k vs 160kish... it was just too much money to pass up
If you like Boston I'd say pick Klaviyo. Since you are a new grad your career trajectory will likely be similar in either. Have you considered industry preference? Marketing and Fintech are different worlds
Oh I see. Personally I love Boston and have friends there and have never been to SF. Industry preference wise I think both are equally interesting for me: both aim at helping businesses grow which I find quite meaningful. I see that you work at Wayfair - what's the tech scene in Boston like? Thanks so much!
Not same level as SF but it's good. MIT seems to have picked up steam and tech scene is bubbling compared to when I started 5 years ago. On growth side you have Gingko Bioworks, Klaviyo, Toast, Drift, Perch, and Draft Kings. DataDog, Pluralsight, Spotify and Unity have offices as well. Hubspot is probably the most comfy option between growth and mature org. Wayfair, Chewy, Amazon etc. usually are looking to hire. Google offices in Cambridge feel nice and cosy. If all else fails, NYC is a stone's throw away where you SO many amazing opportunities. TL;DR - I love east coast and you can have a great career on east coast as well 😄
