Hi, We are a family of 4 based in Bay area and planning our 1st trip to New york. But have no idea where to start looking for tickets, which places to visit, how many days are good in each place etc Can you guys please suggest? Days are no issue. 1. We want to see Times sq, Niagra falls etc 2. We can cover washington DC as well. So please help plan the itenary. Tc 180k (recently got a job in a startup)
You can do Niagara falls in one day. I personally like to plan at least a week in NYC each time mostly for food but I also don't have kids. Wait until a sale to buy tickets
Gonna take half the day just getting there from NYC
When you're there, you can do it in one day. I personally think it's common sense to factor in additional commute time
You are going to need a 2 day trip min for Niagara Falls since the ride is like 6 plus hrs each way. Over there you can take a falls cruise where you can get somewhat close to the falls. DC is a non 3 day trip since the drive is 5 hrs min one way. You will want to see the Lincoln memorial, White House and Smithsonian at the minimum. Nyc itself is a min 3 full days. Time square. The met art museum, Statue of Liberty and Ellis island. Add ground zero as well. You can buy at the tickets place in Times Square for shows that don’t sell out and sell last min tix at a discount. https://www.nytix.com/tkts/tkts-times-square
Are there tours available from ny to niagra fall for those who dont want to drive ?
Niagara Falls is much better from the Canadian side btw
Anyone here also planning ? We can chat
Go to Italy instead. Will cost you less and you’ll have a great experience, great weather, food, culture etc
100% agree.
It will 100% NOT cost you less. Don’t listen to this guy. Come to nyc it’s a great city
I live in NYC and can tell you for certain that this summer is gona be more crowded than ever. Makes it far less enjoyable but either way it's a great city. A lot of things to do and it all depends on what you like. I would say you need atleast 3 days to explore the important places. For first timers I recommend staying in Manhattan but depends on your budget especially for a family You can get to everywhere with the subway.
NYC is more fun for living and to be explored like a resident. It's not fun and worth it doing touristy stuff in 2-3 days.
Hey, check out “little island” in meatpacking for views! Citibike through Central Park …ummm little Italy, Chinatown!
Honestly Little Island, Chinatown, Little Italy etc are more of a "second trip" thing, unless they really wanna do those areas, or have more than 3 days in NYC. Visiting Liberty Island takes half a day off any regular itinerary on a first time NYC visit. Times Square, Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge, WTC memorial, Empire state / any skydeck, Broadway shows, even the MET etc. take higher precedence for most folks on a first trip.
Ages of your family members? How wholesome do you want this NYC trip to be? Many (fun) sides to NYC
DC is 4 hours south of NYC, Niagara falls is like 6 hours north of NYC. DC is a day trip and there isn't much to see you can see it all in a day. Fly into Niagara area it will be much better priced. Spend a few days then take a bus or train/fly to NYC. Stay in upper east or west side or downtown Soho/village. Check out museum of natural history see a show at MSG if they have anything going on and check out times square in the daytime not at night. Check out central park and Brooklyn bridge if you want. When you have had enough you can take Amtrak from Manhattan to DC and fly home from there.
Times Square is honestly like a 2 hour thing. You’ll see it, and then be like ok I’ve had enough. It’s honestly just billboards and expensive candy stores. I suggest you go out and venture to other places. Go to Brooklyn, visit L apartment 4f it’s a bakery, buy some baked goods, walk to the pier sit and eat your baked goods, then walk to dumbo and view the bridge, ride the merry go round there. Walk over to downtown Brooklyn, look at the pretty brownstones and just enjoy the weather.

I did my recent trip to NYC based on chatgpt. It was great. Divided my days based on neighborhoods so that I don't have to move around much.
