Which role to choose from the following? Compensation would be as follows Cap One SWE ML TC : 170K Chase VP SWE ML TC : 220K Chase VP DS ML TC : 180-190K Chase’s VP role is equivalent to Senior Manager at Cap One which is 2 levels above my current role at Cap One. My main goal is learning. I am very technical person and would love to switch to ML Unicorn companies or FAANG in future. Which company can provide me a better path? How much title matters? Learning and Compensation both matter to me. I am looking for a balance tilting towards learning more for at least next 1-2 years. I also want to mention Cap One’s tech stack is really good. Not sure about Chase. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. Senior Software Engineer - Machine learning at Capital One (Principal Level) or Vice President Software Engineer - Machine Learning JP Morgan Chase or Vice President Data Science Lead - Machine Leaning JP Morgan Chase P.S: Comments and explanations would also be appreciated. I want to understand if JP Morgan Chase is as technologically advanced as Capital One or more ##engineering #software #swe #machinelearningengineer
Go for DS lead position.
DS is where the future is.
Really? I think with passing time we have started to see a difference between DS, ML/AI. I think ML/AI is the future. DS’s just build models. ML/AI engineers productionize them and I think that is way more in demand. I might be wrong. Can you add more insight to your point?
AI/ML is as good as the data gets. From what I know DS build data pipelines, analyze the data and find the effectiveness of a model etc. Meanwhile ML engineers are mainly working on models, training, inference etc. Chase could be doing things differently
Location and YOE?
Chase Wilmington, DE (Philadelphia 30 mins drive) Cap One McLean, VA ( DC 20-25 mins drive) YOE: 5.5
Avoid C1
Any particular reason?

Used to work at Chase, VP is manager level not senior manager level. Their levels are analyst (this is like tdp level) -> associate -> senior associate -> VP
I think after VP they have executive director. Isn’t it? I thought ED was equivalent to VP at Cap One. They have less levels. Also, which place did you like more? Can you comment on technical advancements of both companies? Like which company is more technologically advanced?
VP at Chase is a low level, but since they are offering well, which is rare according to levels fyi, I would go with Chase
Are those numbers base salary or are you including expected bonus?
I think Everything! You only get outrageous numbers in big tech and SF!
I would go data science if you want to learn. Just remember, VP sounds great but it's just a senior type of role that just means you don't need your hand held and you can take on plenty of work. The numbers look accurate for higher within the VP salary band. There is a big push for AI/ML across the board and movement to AWS is fairly large now so those salary numbers are going up. DS is hot right now in the firm so you can get in, learn and grow.
