I have an offer at SmartThings and I'm hesitant to accept because of the supposedly terrible leadership and management. When I met the director and project manager, they seemed pretty passionate about the industry. I'm excited to work with smart tech but I don't want to find myself at a dead end career so any input is appreciated.
Smartthings finally has some momentum in this long term play called IoT. You have a chance to make impact because you have an entry point into most US households through the Samsung ecosystem. I think ST is on the rebound.
I don't think I'm concerned about the iot product in general. I'm more so concerned about the culture/work-life balance or management
ST is a dead end. I worked on their acquisition and product offerings 3 years ago. Since then I've seen very little traction. Their platform is more stable but scaling very slowly and while they keep touting the ecosystem play, the use cases are lame. Camera alert on my TV yeah!
I am curious as to what they are trying to drum up since the focus on consumer IOT is pretty much non existent nowadays. Their technology is largely commoditized and the only way to make money is for manufacturers to pay to play on their platform. The problem though is since then amazon and google have essentially became hubs with their own platforms so I feel they have very limited opportunity to grow.
