I’ve noticed lately that the loudest voices get more respect in the room. This seems to be the case not only in professional environments but also personal situations. Has the society degenerated in the past few years? Thoughts?
This was already known as an American business trait. Opposite is true in Japan where business ettiquite is extremely strict and heirarchical.
Yeah, as if hierarchy was the way to go. I'll take the US way thank you (and I'm not American).
I would say they are respected but not heard. Some times you have to stay quiet in a meeting and sense the direction and flow of the meeting before making constructive comments.
So true in political environment as well, just look at Trump.
Read Robert Greene’s new book titled “Laws of Human Nature”.
Read his other books and he's a quack. But titles sell.
What makes you think he’s a quack? His distillation of historical references are thorough. He has done his homework.
Yea it is. Polite, nice, and hard working people suffer and are the ones that get the axe during layoffs
Find your strengths and leverage those. you might be quiet but if when you talk you can show people you’re smarter people will finally realize that even if they are louder. Be confident and live up to your values. Don’t try to be like them, try to be better
Being loud doesn’t == being respected
You can be polite but loud.
This.
Boils down to company culture. And that's something that's almost impossible to change.
This is nothing new. If you want to be heard you need to find a way to be heard.
