My mentor, seeming to be a male, has been commenting too much on my code reviews. It feels like it’s impossible for this guy to approve my code. I can’t help but think I am being targeted for being a female swe. Is this sexism? TC: 190K
Have you seen how he comments on other people's code and compared it to the comments you get?
And are you certain that these comments are completely unwarranted? I.e., your code is up to par with that of your colleagues and the comments you get are unfair?
Not implying anything. Perhaps he is sexist (in which case, we would totally be on your side), but we need the full picture to make a judgement.
Happens when you join a new company. You'll get to know what they want after a couple of code reviews.
true, OP must be a fresh grad
Maybe your code isn't up to standard Also, see below:
Unless other male engineers do not get the same treatment for the same issues or quality of the codes, it is not sexism.
Curious to know how long you have been working with current mentor ?
There isn’t any grey areas in sexism. If you feel like you are being targeted, it is sexism.
Or racism
Or whatever
This has nothing to do with sexism, stop been so sensitive.
I mean, he’s an SDE. Have you ever met an SDE? They’re typically very particular, borderline on the spectrum with how some things have to be. This seems pretty normal to me. Unless you have evidence he treats other people differently for making the same mistakes.
This. SDEs are consumed with “code quality “ and most over engineer for cool factor. Just go with it, because that is the culture you are at
Uhh, I don't know how there could be poll answers in good faith based on such scarce information. If I had an engineer under me that was writing terrible code, I definitely would have a bunch of comments for it code. On the other hand, it's totally possible for a terrible manager or lead to commenting your stuff because they don't like you. Without more information, it is impossible to know which case it is
This is the only reply needed for this whole post. People are having a ton of discussions with literally no info provided lol.
What kind of comments?
Variable naming. Refactoring, etc. Lot of nits
Maybe he’s just thorough?
