I spent my entire life on open source stack and Java/Python as programming language. Now got offer from MS and most likely will join. They have .Net framework and C# language. How to manage the switch? #engineering #software #aws #msft #microsoft #amazon
Learn new things and change tech stack. Isn’t this what always happens for a software engineering job?
More than often the core competencies remains the same. For sure things changes but not everything.
How different do you think C# and Java are? They're both strongly typed object oriented garbage collected languages that execute in a platform-agnostic virtual runtime.
C# is a breath of fresh air compared to the steaming pile that is the Java ecosystem
It is not java its the amazon ecosystem. Even if amazon use C# it will still be a pile of sh*t.
Why did you go to MS?
Product they are developing is interesting. Also stagnated at Amazon.
Facing a need to learn new languages, new technologies? That’s nothing new at all. If you haven’t had to consistently learn new technical areas, it’s good that you’re finally going somewhere where you will! :)
New "technical area" doesn't mean new "programming language"
Those things can go hand in hand. You typically are picking up a new language because you’re working on something you haven’t worked on before - a new technical area
I did the switch backwards and it was smooth
