By pre-sales I mean supporting sales team by engaging in technical capacity. I have seen people taking management route which is typical as you grow up in the hierarchy. But what else are your options and how has your TC grown over the past years? What are some senior level pre-sales roles at Google, Microsoft, SAP and others? I’m at Citrix as a Sales Engineer and we have 6 levels. The highest IC level is Distinguished Engineer which is also Director Level but with no reports. Individuals at that level reports straight to a VP and are only involved in strategic initiatives and not necessarily active pre-sales people in the field. They get to influence products by working with PM and Engineering directly.
