Dear recruiters/interviewers, what kinda interview candidates do you prefer? 1. Frequent Switcher: who switches company every 1/2 years Pros: a) Good at adopting new technology. b) Not afraid of change. c) Wide spectrum knowledge on technology. Cons: a) Maybe good at interviewing and not at job. b) Maybe fails to succeed in job and that forces him/her to switch. c) Risk that he/she may not stay in the current role (if you are investigating a lot to a new recruit) 2. Long Term comitter: who stays in a company for a longer period Pros: a) Very good at his job. b) Gains in-depth knowledge in his/her project. c) In general, loyal to company. Cons: a) Afraid of change. b) Fails in cracking interviews that may forces him/her to stay for a longer period. c) Maybe lacks in wide spectrum knowledge. I have listed few pros and cons. Recruiters don’t care if you stay 1 year or 5 years. Their job is to find people that meet the bar that the company is hiring for. Interviewers on the other hand, especially ones that are interviewing candidates for the team they work on, would prefer a candidate who would stay 2+ years. Especially for junior developers, it can take 6+ months to get a teammate working at their full capacity. If they stick around for just a year, 6 months is half that time essentially.

how about short term comitter, a year or two is enough for interview to be fair, everyone is more or less held to the same standard, the length of employment is not part of consideration and the wide spectrum of knowledge is kind of depending on individual
That's probably Amazon policy. But few companies prefer to retain candidates for a longer period. It completely depends on the company's policy.
