When people say that they are pressured to perform in FAANG companies, what do they mean exactly? Is your manager constantly asking about status updates? Your coworkers complaining about you being slow? Something else? Thanks
Leetcode != performance. So a lot of high leetcode achievers struggle and quietly move out.
Nonsense. It just means they need to yeet more
yes and no. Good % of ppl who’s willing to sacrifice hours on LC will make good efforts to perform. Obviously, there’s always someone who get extremely lucky and make others scratch their heads.
It’s a result of unclear and vague expectations leaving you to hedge by doing so many different things to a high degree. The manager doesn’t give you clear guidance because they are equally clueless and equally optimizing for their careers first.
This is a silicon valley thing, and I love it! Because most managers are clueless but pretend they know what they are doing and give very specific instructions, stifling your creativity.
So if I’ve always been in startups where vague requirements were ordinary and always took care of digging into the problem, formulating a solution, gaining consensus with the team and then implement some of it I should be ok at Facebook? My programming skills are not the sickest but I passed the interview, I’m worried that at the first code review people will tell me I’m a moron or that I’m too slow. Like in C++ I write pretty easy to understand code with some C++11 features, but I don’t do complicated class hierarchies, crazy template meta programming tricks, delegate patterns like there’s no tomorrow or advanced std features, ... some people in my team do and I can tell they are far more advanced programmers than me.
