One of my friends is looking at a potential offer somewhere at IC5, IC6. I checked Glassdoor for salaries, but look a lot lower than I think. Can someone at Yahoo tell the numbers. Individual components split would be beneficial.
I am assuming you are asking for Software Developer. There are very few IC-6 at Yahoo. Usually after IC-5 either people get stuck for several years and quit or become a Manager. The base salary for IC-5 should be around 155K-175K. You usually don't get any sign on bonus. The target annual bonus is 15% of base. I know someone who just got promoted to IC-5 and he got 50K stock over 4 years (YES it's not a typo, it means 12.5 K every year). Actually if we just compare the total comp, I feel a new grad at Google might even get more than IC-5 at Yahoo. The salaries at Yahoo look a joke now when I see what other people earn at companies like Google, FB etc. Also some of the Yahoo's think that they get paid more than AOL so the salary increases might be even lower in future. In summary, stay at Google. You are a lucky bitch 👍
Thanks for the detailed response. That's correct, new grads at G make something similar to IC5 at Yahoo. That's why I thought Glassdoor was way off. Does EM and Sr EM which are similar levels but on the M track offer much higher pay. Can my friend ask to move him to M track now (by having some additional interviews) or can he change roles once he joins?
ICn is the same as M[n-1]. There is no difference in comp moving to the M track. IC5 total comp midpoint is about $275k. IC6 is $350k. Any strong candidate should be able to get over the midpoint, so figure at least $300k at IC5/M4. IC5 bonus is 15%. IC6 bonus is 25%. But bonuses aren't based on your base, they're based on the midpoint, which is super sketch. Your friend should make sure he understands this from the recruiter. All of this could change after the merger of course.
It's unclear to me why anyone would even be considering an offer from Yahoo at this point. Just climb right up onto the Hindenburg after it's already burst into flames.
Principal: base $175k, total comp $225k Sr. principal: base:$200k, total comp: $275k
Both figures are lower than the midpoints. Sr principal (IC6) is director. Base midpoint is $210k with total comp is at least $300k at Yahoo. Midpoint for total comp is $350k. You should easily be able to get $400k.
I used to manage a big team at Yahoo just a few months ago, $225k and $275k total comp numbers are right.
