I’m a junior and have an opportunity to interview for Privacy Engineer internship at Google. Wondering what the job is like and what exactly they do? also, any tips for the interview? Thanks!
Is this in the auditing group? Have they told you what kind of engineering work you'll actually be doing on a daily basis?
I’m thinking that it is privacy auditing because they gave me a PDF with some recommended readings for privacy acts and policies.
I applied for a similar role like this that happens to be in the Audit group. Even the role has been very vague what kind of interview will be conducted. The required skills range from consulting to development, etc.
Anyone at Google have any insight into this role?
Hey, how was your phone screen? I'm still contemplating applying there, but don't want to take up the wrong role just because I don't have a new grad offer yet... What's the role like?
to everyone who is wondering (OP here) - I had my phone screen last week. It wasn’t a coding interview and It’s mostly a policy/auditing role with some potential to do some technical work depending on the product you get assigned to. the interview was relatively easy but keep in mind this was for an internship and not for a full time.
Hey can I message you for more information?
How much of you cyber security knowledge was tested?
Hey would you hook me up with your recruiter? I am looking for job openings in privacy Engineering teams
Well I’m a Privacy Engineer so I can answer some general questions
Should I DM?
You could but I’d prefer you ask here so others can see my answers as well
I want to know what a privacy engineer does at Google and if they get paid less than SWEs? I have a friend who is a google privacy engineer and I still don't understand what he does even after he tries explaining it to me. I am a data scientist with almost 20 yoe. He also says privacy engineers get paid more than SWEs
Privacy engineer pay is the same band as SWE, not more.
Do you have formal privacy experience? I ask since I was thinking of applying to the full time role.
nah, I don’t. I’m a cybersecurity major and have not had any experience with privacy or policy so I’m not exactly sure what it is. My past internships/experience were network engineer intern and TA.
Ah I see, I think I'll just apply to the new grad role then
