Contractors what is your hourly rate FAANG companies? Length of contract, YOE, as well would be helpful please Im NYC based Lead/Sr. Product Designer with 7 years of experience, hybrid UX/Visual/Interaction skillset, past experience building products end to end for Google, Snap, Paypal, Verizon, FinTech, HealthTech start ups, etc., also pitching work and leading client engagements. FB tried to offer me $120/hourly for 3-4 month contract. Is this feeling low ball? I was thinking more $160-175 on 1099 contract #contract #productdesign #interviews #ui/ux #contractor #hourlyrate
And on a 1099, the person setting up the contract was saying they might only be able to do W2
Good call, thanks for the tip
They are offering $80 in Canada.
Actually, I’m not a contractor, but many recruiters from various recruiting firms reach me $80-110 (contractor roles in big tech + based on 8-12months contract term). That also comes with benefits from the recruiting firms. Most Fang and big tech companies do W2 to the contractors, not 1099. (could be vary by the situation but so far what I learned tho) So 120/hr for 3-4mon is very good offer I believe
120/hr without benefits is super solid. If that includes benefits then you’ve got it made tbh
I’ve been offered google contracts on w2 with benefits for 100-130hr for visual design
Nice. Through which company?
Pro unlimited I think
I did $150/hr at Google before FTE as Sr UX (director at an agency)
Through which company? And tell us about your conversion process to FTE
It was through Adecco. Wrapped two years TVC in early 2020, they wanted me to relocate to come on FTE and I said no thanks. Went to another gig, got contacted by recruiter to come FTE remote (at least for a year during covid) and figure it out later. My boss seems to want me to return to office so I started interviewing for remote roles a few months back. Likely going to Instagram next month, just waiting on final comp offer.
When TC for full-time employees is as high as it is, why would you do the contracting instead? Lower bar?
I worked contract for the last 7 years before starting at Google FTE last year. The main reason was remote work and project flexibility. Now that more companies are adopting remote work that took away my main reason for contracting. 🤷♂️
I’ve made more money / have more independence through freelancing than I ever have working full time. Allows me more space to work on smaller side projects which have been fulfilling and financially rewarding as well. Freedom from office politics is another lovely perk! It’s def not for everyone but works for my lifestyle ✨
Did you get your rate?
Yea I did 🎉
I said I was looking at $160 min. Hourly
And did they respond? You’ve already told them what you want.
