Thinking about taking the offer for IC6 promo. Currently checking all boxes. Not sure if I wanna/should go that route given the overall climate. Any reasons aside from pay increase? TC: 290
Are you not already doing IC6 work if you have a promo offer? Might as well get paid for the scope you’re working in. Unless it doesn’t work that way at Meta?
At Meta you can also get strong ratings at the level below which bring higher bonus. Then you can overachieve but are not expected to do what you do while overkilling it. With the level above a meets all expectations level will equal more to overkilling at level below, and if you get below meets all you are getting managed out of you don’t turn it around quickly.
Up to you and what you prioritize. If you want to chill and coast, you can take it easy as an IC5 and continue getting MA/EE+. If you want to grow and push yourself, going up for the IC6 promo may make you a stronger designer. No right or wrong answer here, depends on what you value yourself. The expectations and of you will be higher as an IC6, if you want to push yourself go for it.
IC5 is definitely not equal to coasting in this current culture
Depends on your team and how efficient you are in getting things done. For me, I knew I could coast as an IC5, and I took it easy and got EE+ for three PSCs in a row before my manager convinced me to go for the IC6 promotion. I was certainly getting complacent myself, but I had long outgrown the IC5 role. I’m speaking from my own experience, so obviously your values and circumstances will be different.

Should C-suite take paycut to save company? Peloton layoff 400 and ceo pocketed $168M TC.
Depends on the company and it’s stability.
