I am starting the interview process for a Senior Product Design position at Workday. I’m sure I’ll learn more from speaking with the recruiter, hiring manager, etc. but wondering if anyone here has any insight into design at Workday. What’s the design culture like in your own words? What kind of designers are most valued? Current TC: 130k, 10% YOE: 3y #design #interviews #ui/ux #productdesign
Design at workday is in a state of flux. There’s a new design director and a lot of attrition as a result of this. The design director is trying to move WD to a design driven org, which is good in principal, but due to tech debt will be challenging. UX and design maturity is low.
Not sure which of my peers would interview you for a Senior role with 3 years of experience. Even our job posting says 7+ years. It sounds like you’d be better positioned to apply for an associate level role. Also our design maturity is not low. I’d say we are at high level 3 or beginning stage 4. We have a Chief Design officer (almost a year now) and two new VPs, design and research. Agree we are in flux, but it’s all for the best and honestly an exciting time to be in UX at Workday. Even with tech debt, bespoke capabilities have really opened up what’s possible in the UI. Also WLB is great. Feel free to PM with questions. Also attrition is more likely due to Workday not offering a full remote option. All companies are experiencing attrition as the pandemic has caused a lot of people to rethink their priorities and has opened up the possibility to work from anywhere.
Mind sharing TC range for a Senior Product/UX role? Thks
Wow 3 yoe is senior now?
Title inflation is riding high these days - I’ve seen people by me who have 2 yoe somehow manage to get a senior title.
Not in my experience in the design org. We’d see this as a level 2 designer. Seniors usually have 7+. In rare cases 5.
