Sharing my experience of interviewing at Apple for Product Design position. Hopefully, it helps folks here. I recently applied to a role in Apple Siri Team for a Product Design position via their website. Within 2 weeks of applying, I got an email from the recruiter asking for time availability with the Hiring Manager. I was excited and provided my next best availability. At this time the recruiter was just helping me schedule a chat. On asking more about what I should prepare for a chat with the Hiring Manager, I did not get any specific feedback and was just told, it was supposed to be a casual chat. Next, I had a 30 min chat with the Hiring Manager. The conversation was casual and the Hiring manager asked me questions about my experiences as a designer, things I was passionate about and what motivated me to apply to this role. That was that. After a week of that conversation, I got an email for a Virtual Onsite. The virtual onsite was a full day session of interviews with the team. I found this strange since as a designer, I am used to presenting a portfolio review first. But, I think as compared to other tech companies, Apple recruits specifically for a team. Anyways, again when I asked the recruiter what I should prepare for the virtual onsite, there was less guidance, but generic feedback like be ready to talk about your work, culture fit, etc. One day before my interview, the recruiter sent me the list of people that I will be talking with and the areas that they would like to chat about. I was scheduled to have 5 1:1 interviews with a 30 min break in between. My onsite included a designer, engineer, hiring manager, and PM. Everybody was a member of the team and was very easy to talk to. Most of the questions asked were behavioral and based on the product/technology. All interviewers were engaged & interested and made the session very interactive. The last interview was supposed to be for culture, which got canceled. I was informed about the same by my last interviewee and the recruiter over email. If the virtual onsite goes well, I will be called for a portfolio review. Hope my experience is of help. I will update this post as I hear the next steps. #apple #productdesign #interview
so many interviews godamnn
I did a portfolio presentation at the beginning of my on-site, the actual process depends on the team but overall quite similar.
Hi @kK88O999 could you give a bit more details on your portfolio presentation. What did you present and any tips on having a successful presentation?
Did they tell you there will be a portfolio review beforehand?
Did you apply with referral or just cold apply? Mind if i ask your YOE?
I did a cold apply. YOE - 10 yrs
So strange to have a portfolio review after the individuals. Those individual interviews should be a chance to expand upon and ask questions about the portfolio work..
Interesting! I have interviewed with this team in the past and saw a few red flags! The WLB sounded awful and I did not want to be managed by a PM manager! Make sure you cover those aspects in the interview as well.
Can I DM you to learn more about your experience??
What do you mean managed by PM manager?
Thanks for sharing. Insightful
thanks for sharing. keep it updated here.
+1 thanks for sharing. Apple’s process is so weirdly opaque vs every other company
Love it. Thanks. Almost funny the culture portion got cancelled last minute
This is helpful, thank you for sharing. Wishing you luck in the next round!
