My wife is a project manager for a SaaS company with 3+ years of experience and wants to become a product manager because she thinks it’ll be more hands on than what she’s doing now. Has anyone been on a similar track and found success? What advice would you give to someone in her position? She applied to a few product manager jobs but no luck so far. Totally different!
I have managed people that have come from Project Management to Product and also people that come from a more technical BA path. I think the technical path yields a stronger product manager because they understand the mechanics of developing and testing product first hand. It makes them better equipped and more credible with their technical teams. I would encourage her to develop some technical chops first.
