Who is more accountable for a project, is it the lead Engineer or the SDM or the TPM or the PM? Reason I ask - an year long project I’m leading as an Engineer will very likely not meet the date. If we force it, we will be cutting corners. I have been harping this for the last 3 weeks but everyone seems to be living in their own reality. Every time I say this, they change the project status, but that’s about what they do. Almost seems like they don’t care? How do I handle this situation without damage to my career? Manager is aware of the load I’m handling. I am 200% sure, deep down everyone knows it’s not happening on the promised date. Are they trying to find a scape goat? Worst case scenario - manager complaints to higher ups that I couldn’t deliver on time. Wouldn’t it look bad on the manager itself? Will I be placed in a PIP for not delivering on time? Again this is a 1 year long project. Additional context - This is a hugely important project for the team is what I keep hearing but they chose a relatively inexperienced engineer like me to lead. To be completely honest, I was never ready for this giant a project but they stuck with me for some reason. YOE - 2 TC - 200k
Harping how? Verbal or written
I’ve called for meetings with the whole team. Have slack messages asking for more resources, wrote docs with all pending tasks and effort required etc.
You innocent little thing. You actually thought that tech projects are supposed to be completed on time? That's adorable!!! Projects get delayed all the time. Especially year long projects. The reason why they don't care is that this is par for the course. The simple fact that you think this is a major problem that can damage your career makes me want to pinch your little cheeks for being so dang cute!
Hahah as a matter of fact I am indeed pretty new to the industry 😅

PM is irrelevant role and will die in next 2-3 years.
Write your concerns in emails. Later, no one will be able to say “why didn’t you tell us you needed help/the project was at risk/etc” Also, if they only put one inexperienced engineer on it, then I guess it wasn’t actually that important.
Yeah, I’ve called for meetings with the whole team. Have slack messages asking for more resources, wrote docs with all pending tasks and effort required etc. My only concern is, who do I defend this with if it really comes to it?
