Promotion cycle at your company

I just want to get a sense of how promotions work at your company. Here you have to “demonstrate that you can perform tasks at the next level” for a year, and then apply. Once you submit your application it goes through some committee which can take about a couple of months. Then after that, if you’re promoted there’s another 6-9 month wait for the pay to be reflected. Almost 2 years for a promotion (💰➡️🏦) sounds absurd - what’s the general cycle like at your company? How transparent is it?

At Meta, you don't have to really apply for a promotion. You just have to push your manager to speak for you. You have to demonstrate the next level behaviour for a few months for relatively junior levels and for more months for senior levels but you can get promoted every six months.

Requires about 6 months of demonstrating performance at next level. Promotion cycles happen 2x a year. Committee makes the decision on promos over a 2 month period and then if you get promoted your comp is updated in about 1 month. All in it’s about 6-9 months after you start performing clearly at next level. 6 months longer if you don’t pass the first cycle

We have 6 month cycles and then committee review for 3 months. Pay will be updated 1 month after promo

We have promo cycles every quarter. One needs to demonstrate performing at the next level consistently for six months to be considered for promo.

About the same at Google, except base salary is reflected immediately.

Base salary is reflected pretty immediately as well, but that’s only the same as the yearly bump - about 7-10K more. Seems weak.

I think almost everywhere requires you to demonstrate performance a the next level for a long enough period to convince management that you won’t burn out. Snap’s process is similar to Lyft, but doesn’t take so long to get the money. It’s a few months from start of the promo process involving peer reviews to receiving the decision and new compensation. Candidates don’t need to write up anything themselves though.

Here we have to write a packet, and manager writes a packet. The writing part doesn’t bother me too much, because I can “sell” myself without too much issue.

"demonstrate you can perform at the next level for a year" = super underemployed for AT LEAST a year
