Hello - I've been exposing my self to the data analysis side of things in manufacturing and engineering. I don't have a CS background, but did some Matlab in college and I'm learinng Phyton and some SQL at the moment through Coursera That being said, what are some other skills/certificates needed to get my foot into one of these Fintech or tech companies that are looking for Data Analysts? Looking at the salaries, it would be a step down for me, but I like the work life balance in tech industry. #dataanalytics #data
What kind of work are you interested in? Data Analyst is such a broad title and they are used in very different ways depending on the company, from very technical to not at all.
To be honest I'm not sure, I know I don't want to do it in a manufacturing environment no room to learn/grow.

Interview wise you will most definitely be screened for SQL. Python based assignments are very common too. Some times they also screen you on Python. Outside of coding stuff they typically have you dissect an anomaly in a chart. If it’s a product focused job then experiment design, AB test, and hypothesis testing. The data analyst space is too broad now though. There’s no clear path that covers everything. Certifications don’t matter at all unless you’re doing them for your own learning. I’m speaking with experience. Have interviewed with every other big tech company out there.
Okay, if they do not matter, then I am just doing them to understand the process and some of the software out there with an added bonus of some capstone projects here and there to apply what I have learned.
Hey Cowpiss, would you be open to share how you get interviews at different companies?
