31, single, and live comfortably and with zero real obligations. Just signed offer with meta. Kinda feeling like it’s my last chance to take time off. Do I try to push my start date? How would that work with hiring freeze? This is for a PMM role. Tc - $230k
If you already have the offer, you should be fine. How long are you thinking? This freeze is to avoid any drastic measures other companies might be forced to take, like cancelling offers. If you want to be safe, you should talk to the hiring manager about starting and then taking unpaid PTO the week or two after you start. I did that. Started and then had a 2.5-3 week PTO a month or so in.
Idk. Maybe just a month or two. I have really great WLB in general, but haven’t taken a long vacation since before Covid, so it feels needed. When I travel I just work because it’s so easy, but it’s not unplugging
Got it — a month or two would be pushing it freeze or not lol. Check out the additional info I added in my post. My hope is that the first week or two would be slow enough that you wouldn’t feel the pressures to much and can still unplug if you step away for a while.
Join asap and avoid risk of offer cancellation
Meta has a really good PTO policy at the moment - holidays, 21 PTO days, and 5 “meta days” where you just get 5 extra Fridays off during the year. Also 31 isn’t the end of the world bro you’ll have time to do a sabbatical or gap year after you get Meta on the resume and secure some RSUs
This is all really great advice. Thank you ☺️
Possibly do both? Can stretch it a week or two, and then take more as @meta said above?
Joining in mid July, last day in current job is early June
You are good. Meta will not start cancelling offers because of this freeze or they will destroy their reputation in the industry overnight. They will simply stop hiring.
