Israeli precision-guided munition likely killed group of children playing foosball in Gaza, weapons experts say
Hello, I am a CS and Accounting dual degree student at a well know public university. I am currently deciding what to consider for my future internship and my mentor/manager said they could introduce me to people at PwC. My question is, what are some people’s experiences with PwC and what would my future growth potential/rate be if I were to try to pursue a career with this company?
Just go become a SWE. Look at all the knuckleheads on Blind who make $300-400k.
My parents want me to go down this track but I’m worried I’m not as competitively viable in terms of CS. I have a really good gpa but I have little to no personal projects. One key note would be that I’m a rising junior and people say I may be a more desirable candidate due to that, however I am unsure about what I want to pursue as well.
Accounting firms, and their tax practice are specifically looking for those with CS and accounting knowledge for a niche field automating tax and finance functions and processes. Mostly using low / no code platforms and some SQL. Future growth isn't as great as pure SWE.
Thank you for the information! I heard the pay is underwhelming at big 4 for people with similar skill sets so it’s good to know that my chances are probably better elsewhere
To have to be clinically insane to go into accounting rather than be a SWE. Even a mediocre software engineer is going to make more than 99.99% of accountants. Please, for the love of god don’t go into accounting. You can always fall back on that later if you want.
If you are on the audit side, it’s gonna be 2-3 years each level: associate, senior, manager, senior manager. Then after senior manager, it’s gonna be Director which really depends on who you know, if you get someone important to sponsor, you may get to partner. Similar track on the consulting side. TC or culture in pwc/big 4 are not comparable to tech though…
Thank you for the info! It’s very similar to things I found online but I have heard that big4 have begun to train their accountants to have technical skills. In regards to promotions per level, would performance help boost my chances of moving levels at a faster pace? From my experiences, accounting is a lot easier than CS and I can adapt and work at faster rates than many of my peers so would high performing employees be prioritized in each promotion cycle?
Performance definitely helps but only to an extent, e.g., one can not be promoted every year… so in order to make to Partner, the fastest I’ve seen is ~10 years. But that requires knowing the right ppl and the right opportunities / timing. Normally it takes ppl longer because of lateral moves, MBA, case not strong enough, etc. Even if you make to partner, the junior partner’s TC is about the same as or less than a senior Eng in FANNG, and you would have to churn through years of hard work and tough hours to get to partner… it’s only a good choice if one absolutely hates CS and loves accounting
