Fitbit?

I know the stock has been a sinkhole. How is compensation? What about wlb? Recruiter contacted me. Can't decide if I should ignore or not... I think their work is interesting but not sure about the company.

Cisco nonpareil2 Oct 8, 2019

They are going to go bankrupt. Not a lot of WLB in that case.

Lol. Good point.

Can you please accept job interview and request a round with with their CEO and please ask some questions please? If he lives in reality and any of his stupid f'ing ideas like 10$ monthly premium fee is ever decided by talking to actual people rather than his r*etar*ded executive team. Why it is so difficult in 2019 to do a simple Bluetooth sync? Despite 5 years of same complaints why it is so hard to design a decent enough strap that doesn't s*ck/break or isn't a pain to swap. Finally, who ever designs their charge cables are utmost incompetent fool to design cable after cable that simply doesn't sit flat.

They got owned by Apple Watch like 3 years ago.

LG lzml OP Oct 8, 2019

I think they got owned by Apple watch before Apple watch was even announced

Comp is ok, lower then FAANG but not terrible. Wlb is honestly incredible to the point it’s sorta boring. Even though the company is sinking there’s no sense of urgency, people wfh all the time for all sorts of random reasons, unlimited pto a lot of people actually take and the office is pretty much a ghost town after 6pm or so

Stock price makes so much sense now.

Illumina puncher Oct 9, 2019

because employees need to be exploited and work overtime? from what this guy says this should be at every company

Fitbit effbit Oct 9, 2019

What is the role and team? Comp is decent. At least we're not working 80hrs a week like faang. Depending on the team, it can be a great working environment and wlb. But that % is dwindling! Can answer specific questions if you need more info. DM me.

Most faang employees don’t work 80 hour weeks

Fitbit 0x56BD Oct 9, 2019

Good wlb, decent opportunities too, not really a sinking ship like the meme says. The stuff that’s making the company money isn’t sexy smart watches though, so you don’t hear about it as much. Our cash balance tends to go up YoY, but the street wants us to do more than just that. If you think we’re going bankrupt, I’d recommend looking at our financials instead of stock price. Our cash has gone up from 664m to 723m over the last 3 years while developing our platform and growing our user base. Not amazing, but lol if you think we’re dying or something. Comp is good enough. Fitbit beat my L5 G offer 3 years ago, but I guess that’s not surprising since G is lowball city. Won’t beat FB or SNAP though. Base salary is high due to lower stock value, and annual refreshers are pretty decent, but obviously very unreliable due to stock volatility. 401k is mediocre, ESPP pretty good and resistant to stock problems since it’s based on the lower of first/last date. Always willing to answer questions, assuming they’re not about internal secrets like product launch timings or whatever.

What’s the bonus at your level?

Fitbit Hytt456 Oct 10, 2019

Salary is fine, but equity comp is awful for obvious reasons. WLB can be great if you're not one of the people stuck in China. It's true that no one stays late anymore. It's dying. It may take years, but it's in an unrecoverable death spiral. Management is a bad as you've probably heard, at pretty much all levels. They just don't know how to road map and build a strategy, define a project, develop new tech, or adjust schedule, scope, and resources to support the strategy that they haven't defined. Even the weak players are leaving and finding jobs elsewhere.

Fitbit 0x56BD Oct 10, 2019

Not sure I agree with some of this. We’ve had problems with decision making, especially at the exec level, but most of the directors and below I’ve worked with are solid at the minimum.

Fitbit Hytt456 Oct 10, 2019

It's cool. Just relating my experiences. Some good engineers who I would love to work with again, but very, very few managers.
