I’ve received an offer from qualcomm ai for senior ML engineer and have setup interviews with jpmorgan next week for VP AIML I’ve masters in cs (ml) and couple of years of prior swe experience. Ideally wanted to pivot my career towards research (old for phd now) by joining as RE/AS at google/meta/etc and get mentorship + publish papers but this comes close and safe I think given the layoffs. Qualcomm ai role’s sounds good - manager seems nice, high impact, more towards applied research (the research is driven by amsterdam team, sigh) but the pay is less than jp and the perks are non existent. JP morgan on the other hand pays more and is in nyc but might have very less ai work even though the role says AIML. Which one would get me interviews at research labs like google brain, openai, etc in the future? #machinelearning #researchscientist #swe
Forget about JP, it is a shithole. Their AIML is like 50 years behind tech companies
Qualcomm sucks balls too
True
yoe?
4yr in swe. masters in ml/cs from an ivy, getting back in industry
“JPMorgan AIML” 🤣🤣🤣 That’s cute
How’s the JPMorgan TC? I’ve heard they really upped their TC levels
Qualcomm sounds better
having seen the earning report of qualcomm, anyone has any idea how it'll affect the ai department?
Thts nothing. Qualcomm has steady source of income. Rev yoy has grown. Stock is cheap at current price. Given AI is upcoming qc might pay you top dollar in its industry
AI is very safe, my team has had no layoffs and are actively hiring again.
Can you please share your offer? I am not sure if qualcomm can even match your current salary
Qualcomm AI is quite safe from layoffs and still hiring.
Op how’s the Qualcomm ml interview process ! Congrats btw

The end of Backdoor Roth?!
Do you mind if I ask, why do you think you'd be hired as an rs when the hiring slowdown means that top phds are having a hard time finding work? Would it make more sense to just take the top paying job and practice research on kaggle in your spare time?
Kaggle is not research mostly.
I’m not talking right now, i ideally want to climb the ladder to it in the future (i’m talking 4 years down the line). I’ve seen plenty of applied scientists with masters at amazon right out of college, which i’m aware is not possible right now
