Qualcomm giving base pay (105K-107K) in the Bay area to HW engineers? It is the same for new hires in San Diego as well. Is there any scope of negotiating for 112K-115K in Bay area? What can be the basis for negotiation if yoe 0. Can the cost of living be justified point?
Qualcomm HR’s don’t budge unless you have a competing offer
You need more to live in SF and Qualcomm won't budge. They are really stubborn. However, they desperately need people because they are hemorrhaging people weekly. So if I were you I would say you won't accept anything less than 175k salary in SF. Trust me, they will work you hard (9 to 9pm) so you shouldn't accept less anything less. For 115k, I would only accept if they agree to pay overtime at 2x your equivalent hourly rate, so that you get paid fairly for all the expected overtime hours you are about the work. Note that your RSUs won't be very good and won't cover all the overtime, until you get to management. Don't let yourself be taken advantage of. They need people more than you need them. Keep applying to other jobs and hopefully you will get another offer with another company. I dont recommend working at QC due to low pay, toxic work environment, theft of ideas, high level of narcissism (people say/do anything to step on others to get ahead) and the work is not very interesting. Yesterday's tech. The company is just spinning its wheels doing useless features that customers don't care about because workers are cheap (plenty of H1B's). You are far better off trying to get into Tesla, SpaceX, Amazon, Google, etc or any other company that is innovating and going to pay you well, look good on your resume and increase you skill set. At QC you won't learn anything that will be useful to helping you get jump to a better company. If you do join QC, don't become complacent. Keep studying and applying to better companies. You should think of QC as nothing more than a stepping stone, and everyday you should invest time to jump to a better job.
