I am a Canadian citizen living in the US. Apparently I do not need a work visa to work in Canada. My parents are very sick and I need to move back. Does anyone know if Qualcomm will let me transfer to their Canadian payroll? I know companies like Amazon and Microsoft transfer people who cannot get an H1B to their Canadian offices. But Qualcomm so far has been giving me a hard time about this transfer. TC: $250K (HW)
I doubt CANADA office is big enough to accommodate all the transfer. They have extremely small operations with one or 2 teams. YMMV. Good luck.
Try AMD which has a bigger presence in Canada. Qualcomm doesn't have much going on in Canada. I doubt they will transfer you anywhere outside HQ.
I agree. They certainly won't let you keep your $250K salary, that's for sure.
I am not in the HQ. Actually our office might be smaller than the one in Markham. But definitely they don’t have the process in place to transfer which surprises me because they are a multi national huge company. For example, they’re misquoting the US-Canada tax treaty. They think I must be on Canadian payroll after a continuous 183 days of physical presence in Canada while the tax code says 183 days in a tax year. The tax year has just started and the 183 days is in July. Anyway, they’ve let me work remotely for now until the end of April (on US payroll of course) but they’ll make a decision end of March. I’ll post the outcome here for others who might run into a similar situation in the future.
There are transfer options, but depends if there is a current team and/or future plans. Having one person work remotely might not be feasible...so it depends. DM me if you want to chat more.
I did the “transfer” from San Diego to markham. But that’s an internal transfer = interviewing and switching to Markham team. No way to keep your US pay. It’s gonna be adjusted to local level

How long has your job search been?
Kinda seems like they aren’t giving it to you? Why would anyone here know better than what Qualcomm is telling you
I want to know if anyone has been successful with Qualcomm transferring him/her to Canada. Or are they pulling this only on me. By the way, they haven’t made a final decision yet. My direct manager sounds pessimistic though. And it is not up to him.
