How is the hiring bar for Quant Researcher at Citadel compared to Meta, Google etc. ? #engineering #software #citadel #swe
quants have real skills and add measurable value to the business I have an MS in Financial Engineering and did an internship at firm years ago - tough work with higher potential W2 pay despite HCOL
Where did you do your ms in financial engineering?
Harder, for a few reasons I can think of: 1. Lower headcount - you are competing with less people than tech, but there are also significantly fewer spots 2. High variance interviews - trading firm interviews (especially Cit/Sec) can pretty much ask whatever they feel like. At a tech company you pretty much know it'll be 3-4 leetcode medium/hard questions and a sys design question. At a trading firm you could get lucky and some guy asks you two sum, or you get unlucky and have to answer some like nonlinear expectation problem. The breadth of (orthogonal) topics you need to know is wider than tech. 3. Selection Criteria - FAANG interviews pretty much anyone with a decent looking background who can code. Trading firms can afford to be a bit picky in who they hire in comparison. Getting your foot in the door usually requires some substantial showing of skill (HYPSM, competitive math/programming, etc).

What happens when most of your team is Indian?
Harder, but that’s not saying much. FAANG interviews are easy. You literally know exactly what to expect.
