Questions about Engineering Manager role at Northrop Grumman

Hey Folks, I saw a couple of software / embedded engineering manager 2 & 3 roles at Northrop Grumman where I think I could be a good fit, and I was wondering if you could share any insights about the internal culture, WLB, pay/benefits, growth, etc. Do they offer RSU, bonus, ... ? Thanks ! 15 YoE and 7+ as a manager. TC : 235k #engineering #software #manager #defense

I have great co workers who care about one another and the WLB is great. Benefits are pretty good but pay is very low compared to industry. They don’t have RSU and bonuses are typically 1000 a year unless you are in a top incentive program.

Like the TC is pretty much = base and nothing else?

Yeah my base is 96 and my TC is 97

Spent over 5 years at NG AS in SoCal. Super easy job. Only way to get fired is for breaking the law. Basically no PIP performance based firing. Lots of people coasting but also lots of toxic assholes. Many teams had every Friday off which was nice. No rsu or any decent bonus potential. Only level 4 and above get bonus I believe. Maybe like 5-10%? The best way to boost salary was to work overtime since they log hours and you get paid 1:1 for each extra hour. I knew people clocking 60 hour work weeks making an extra 50%

Thanks for the feedback. Are you familiar with any of the following sites: Camarillo, Northridge or maybe Redondo Beach ?

I’ve worked with teams in redondo. I was based in San Diego. It’s a nice area. The biggest differentiator is which business sector and which program you land on. MS usually has more easy going but less interesting work compared to AS.

Depends where you go really. Lots of upper management being married to one another and people having kids work same programs it seems. Lots of nepotism. WLB is decent dependant on program. People are here to coast it it seems and seems veri niche in groups. No real growth as its an archaic defense company. I think RSUs are at a D level, PTO is terrible it's sick leave and vacation bundle in one. If you join NGC for the first time I think you will be getting new hire rate at 80 hours.

I see, it does not sound very enticing. The location I was seeing were Camarillo, Northridge or maybe Redondo Beach, all in SoCal in the LA area.

Check out woodland hills also

Redondo Beach is the only large site of the three. Target manager 3 roles with your experience and TC. There is exciting work and an opportunity to make real gains in digital / data. The bonus structure for M3 is performance based and hard to receive, but is quite healthy. The pay is okay, safety is high and work-life excellent. Every other Friday, we do not work. Negotiate your PTO days up front.
