passed phone screen and am expecting to hear from the recruiter this week. what questions should i be asking at this point in order to better prepare for the next steps? level? target comp? all coding questions or system design? or too early for things like that? applying for SWE
How did the phone interview go? Would you mind sharing the question and difficulty level?
Not the OP, my PS this March was a LC Hard (google tagged on LC) . But it is a fake hard (like LRU cache). If you know the fundamentals, its like a 5 minute answer and another 10 to code up. I was too slow. Will be better prepped next time !
What level are you interviewing for ? YOE ?
Leave comp for after HC
Surprised they’re doing on site interviews to be honest
Virtual on-site!
Agreed, they have screwed up hiring their team match process is the most fd up process. Best of luck
Focus on passing the onsite
Have fun. :)
Ask about the level and check the target comp on levels.fyi Once you ace the interviews, you have tons of bargaining chips. You can use the numbers as your guide. If you do really well, the recruiter won’t have to take your case to the hiring committee, which is really good. All the best!
How come no HC?
Wut? Recruiter can't bypass hiring committee.
Ask the recruiter, “TC or GTFO”
I passed all my interviews with Google 2 months back, still no team matching.
What level and location ?
L4 and Bay Area. Once I passed my interviews, told that there are no openings in Bay Area.

Do you really feel special in your Tesla?
I don’t think you need to bring up target comp I think having that conversation with offer in hand is generally better. You should clarify the level of role you’re applying for if it’s not abundantly clear — I’ve heard many stories of people not clarifying and if you have expectations about this, you should make sure it’s clearly communicated regardless of what they are. If you don’t mind me asking, what was your process of applying -> interview? I had a referral earlier this week but i’m trying to gauge timeline and if I should commit to another opportunity
If you tell your referrer you’re under timing pressures, they can reach out to a recruiter to let them know. Sometimes they can bring you directly onsite or at least they’ll reach out to you right away to chat and start the process. Timing wise, if you have an offer in hand today and skip the phone interview, I’d say it’ll take 3 weeks from onsite to a potential offer (I’m accounting for the long weekend in that estimate).
@nyc94, is there anything to ask the recruiter if you're eyeing a different location than the one you initially applied to? My recruiter seemed open to the idea of other locations in her casual conversation before
