Quit job for streaming on twitch full-time?

I'm a software engineer with 4 years of experience. I'm in my mid 20's now and losing interest in my job. Ever since I was a kid, I've wasted many a hours playing video games and loved every minute of it because I'm passionate about gaming and I'm good at it. I have been streaming for a year and half now and make 3x the money than I make as an engineer. Is it a good idea to quit my job and focus more on my twitch channel? I know I've worked hard to get a college degree but I'm kind of not motivated to go to work because gaming makes me happy and earns me more money while my job is mundane but surely a stable one. TC: 160k Twitch and YouTube: 450k

What’s your YouTube channel? Or else we can’t help much

IBM zupergamer OP Nov 30, 2018

I run a channel with two other people. It's mostly DoTa

Microsoft MereDork Nov 30, 2018

IBM zupergamer OP Nov 30, 2018

DotA , league of legends

If you’re making 450k streaming, go for it. You’re over the initial hump of trying to make enough to survive off of it alone. Milk it till you get tired of that. You can always go back to software.

Oh I was doing it for fun the first couple of months not expecting anything. Could have made tons more if I were a fortnite player. Missed that bandwagon.

Worst case, you quit for a year and could probably return to SW with the reasoning that you made bank doing twitch.

Hitachi Vantara vetera Nov 30, 2018

This would have been an easy decision of it were true .

IBM zupergamer OP Nov 30, 2018

It's not an easy decision because the money is not guaranteed. People can effectively get bored of the game, bored of twitch or there might be companies hiring over pro gamers to stream specific games like official streams. And most of the money (all most all of it) I get from subs are from Amazon prime . If people leave out Amazon prime for some reason, then I'm done. Also I feel twitch overpays streamerd . It has to eventually stop.

Hitachi Vantara vetera Nov 30, 2018

You can always return to Dev. Just keep doing some side project to keep skills fresh.

Yeah

Amazon PAxv45 Nov 30, 2018

no way

IBM zupergamer OP Nov 30, 2018

Don't ask me. Ask bezos how he does it with twitch. Twitch pays so much for even shitty content and I think they are just giving away some of the money prime makes.
