RFE for Research Scientist position

New H1-B application in Premium Processing to Uber and got an RFE asking me to justify why a research scientist position is a speciality occupation. It also asks me to show how the position links to my education. I have both undergrad and master's in EE. My thesis, all publications and a large chunk (30+ credits) of coursework was CS though. Any advice on what to include in the response? I have a template of response to fill, but I don't trust Fragomen on that being enough. Any previous cases of such RFEs and how did folks respond. Also, it looks like USCIS has lost it's fucking mind, RFEs left and right to any TC chaser tryna bounce. Not that I love the RFE, but good that USCIS also kinda knows that cloning repos from Github and `import keras` is not really specialized occupation lmao. . TC: 295k YOE: 1.5

Most PhDs join FB as L4 I think. I don't have a PhD though.

Switching to an Electrical job will be your best bet. Do you have PhD? If not I won’t recommend getting a scientist title. USCIS might get suspicious. And you’re right ability to use ML (like import keras) is not same as being a scientist.

No PhD? They smell blood in the water... wtf kind of research scientist is that? Good luck!

I had several good publications during my master's and job. And PhD as a prereq for RS position is overrated IMO. Companies are happy to waive that if you have relevant and adequate experience.

Says who? Go get your PhD like all of us and then get that title. Bunch of import keras kids

OP: RS at FB has been a joke!

The RS position is at Uber.

Still a joke my friend

Do you have a Google scholar page, and what's you citation number? USCIS will accept that type of data for scientist position. If you have first author papers, that would be more convincing.

Facebook ausghksay OP Jul 3, 2019

Yes I do, I have 84 citations. Just waiting for the century so that I can get EB-1 and move away from this bullshit.

Just link each duty with your coursework

Usually no Ph.D and low citation count (<100) draw attentions. Coursework counts nothing unfortunately. Do you have recommendation from well known people supporting your case that maybe you can file for O1?

^ what this guy said. Find someone with authority in your field of research to write a recommendation letter can help your case a lot. Your immigration attorney should be able to help draft something

@csB14 - Yeah that's what Fragomen suggested if H1 doesn't go through. I have recommendations from top notch folks but I'm unable to understand why is hat needed for H1-B. H1-B is supposed to be a speciality occupation needing Bachelor's or higher. It's not like I'm proving extra ordinary ability as in EB-1 or O-1. Does RS position need bachelor's or higher? -Yes. Do I have it? - Yes I'm unable to understand why me trying to enter a RS position without a PhD is an issue esp for H1-B.
