Clearly setting the stage for shutting down Google Cloud. Toss it in the rubbish bin right next to Stadia and Google Inbox.

This simply gives customers the option to transfer their data for free, if they choose to leave.
I would say for PR benefits though, it’s probably better if they delay sending such message right after layoff
It also makes it easier for regulators to say this is necessary and possible since Google is already doing out
This will actually do the opposite and attract more customers cause they won’t be worried about vendor locking
it reads as a feature though? they are confident in the product and want to make it easier for people to choose gcp because of perceived lower risk bc they could move off for free
This is the equivalent of open sourcing LLM or code. It’s a huge bet nonetheless leas
Intern spotted
This is to make regulators happy, there is no way they're shutting down GCP
wtf why would they do this ?
Probably to avoid a potential anti compete lawsuit from a governing body. It’s honestly not a bad idea for risk management long term
Google doesn't care about antitrust regulations or they would've done a lot more about it by now. Google only doing this because they're 3rd place in a two horse "cloud" race . Google is like those C- or D-list hollywood "stars" who will do about anything to stay relevant. Google Cloud is only winning over customers because they're giving their stuff away for free or at a very high discount.
