It was confusing looking at a single company why they would be stupid enough to ask people to go back to office. Looking at the industry as a whole, however, RTO basically lowers employee mobility when most companies decide that they want people in the office. In turn, this lowers employee's power to negotiate, which lowers labor cost. RTO is in principle the same as years ago when multiple tech companies colluded to prevent employees from being poached by one another. While I don't like salary hopping, I have to admit that salary hoppers improved pay in the industry for everyone. So even if you like going into office, or like me, enjoy staying in the same company, you lose anyway.
Dude, you are totally wrong in your assessment. In the extreme of WFH, people in HCOL.would be competing with LCOL places. This means salary depression. Imagine also if we were to compete for the salaries of 3rd world countries. Be glad that we are being called into the office and paid the salaries to afford life where the offices are. Much better would be if the H1B scam could also be stopped.
Agree with the H1B part, disagree with the rest
This lol, op is an idiot
These rto conspiracist theories are hilarious. Stfu and go find a new job already.
Frankly I don't mind going to office. While productivity is lower, my wlb is better while going to office and I have a house in walking distance from the office that can benefit from the pump.
I don't think RTO will live long. Once economy improves in a year or so, things are shifting back. Even now it's still probably employee's market.
That is my expectation as well. Remote has made the ability for startup to compete easier than ever...and as far as I can tell, most of these companies that are laying off are short on hand in key areas of investment. They are just slowing down right now, and will likely need more people when competition heats up.
I hope yall are right but I doubt this is the case, mainly at least with FAANG companies but thankfully im not a FAANG sexual anymore and joined a mid sized company
Flawed logic
Employees who go to office and network with other groups let alone their own have more visibility over those who don't and have a better chance of "winning" vs those who are remote. The day they need to do an interview, they can work from home. The equation is pretty configurable.
Lolol returning to the norm is the same as colluding?
Returning to what every company has done except for the past 2 years = massive collision
This is a travesty. Why is at will employment even a thing. I should be able to do anything including not work. Its employers fault for hiring me. If they never hired me they'd never have to fire me...ding dong

Mental breakdown
Not sure I understand your argument. How does RTO prevent employees from being poached? Physical location?
Reduced opportunity due to location. Reduced ability to interview.
I think it’s just easier to train new employees and also keep an eye on people
