I have an offer for L5 (SDE 2) TC 300k After verbally agreeing to offer amount, I learned team was not open to remote work (and I could not relocate because of family), so recruiter found me a few other teams. Just got done having sell-meetings with those teams. The other teams are great, but seems like there’s a lot (a lottttt) of work involved (either because team is brand new or there has been attrition). This work involves **tech lead type architecture and mentorship** as well. My question is: Considering the work involved, is it possible to negotiate for L6 or for higher compensation. **Even though I verbally accepted 300k L5 TC** YOE 10 Current TC 300k (not getting more TC at Amazon, but I desperately need a change of scenery) #engineering #software #swe #amazon #amazonaws #amazonbenefits #aws #awssolutionsarchitect #awselemental #amazoncompensation #amazonbonus #amazonhiring #amazoninternaltransfer
That’s not how it works at Amazon, as far as I know. You can only get l6 if you pass the loop for l6. You didn’t. If you request l6, it will probably involve doing some more looping. But hey, you can always try. Asking doesn’t hurt
Boss tech lead at AMAZON for $300k sounds like a bad deal. At the minimum it should be around $350k and even that is on the low end. Good luck but sounds like they need you so negotiate for high 300’s
Thanks I agree. Wondering how to politely ask for more. Considering that I already verbally agreed to 300k
what's offer location - Seattle ? If NY then 300k is low for L5 should negotiate for 350k in NY for L5 as well
Location is Arlington (Northern VA) Wondering how to politely ask for more TC
Lmao @ the “desperate need for a change of scenery”. Care to elaborate why?
Whats ur offer? Base? I am in same boat im out of Dms. Could you ping me?
I think you should be straightforward with the recruiter and say that this tc is making hard for you to accept the offer (you can also add if you want that, because other company is also willing to match it). I think amazon offers are valid for 6 month anyway if you reject it on comp grounds (verify this). I think right now you can still reneg freely but once you accept it formally then you shouldn’t have any regrets. Cheers
I'm in similar situation with Amazon negotiation and the same region - Washington DC. I've pulled all nice reasons I can imagine while asking for more. Original offer got improved slightly but still not close to 350k TC that I was looking for with 15+ years of experience while seeking L5 position. Originally I was interviewed as L6 but AWS extended offer for L5. IDK how to continue the convo at this point to get more TC. I really like the team and project. But comp negotiation seem to stuck at this point. Amazon even send me an offer with TC numbers already. Anyone knows if bringing an offer from another company can help? How this even work? I just casually through in into a conversation that another company willing to pay more? Do I send them some kind of request?
I’m in the same boat
No L6. after debrief they won’t up level you. You always can negotiate for more TC, though “a lot of work” would not be the best reason.
I’m imagining Amazon’s reaction to the “it’s a lot of work” negotiating tactic. 😆
This isn't true. You can be upleveled if you have a solid competing offer, though it's rare
