Reasonable Offer Negotiation

Got a MSFT offer as a new grad hire for level 59 for Redmond 110k base/30k bonus/120k stock I'm a two time intern with MSFT (same company the offer is from) and graduating with my masters, would it be unreasonable to ask for 80k bonus and 200k stock TC: 0 (still a student)

Yes.

Why do you say it's unreasonable? What do you think reasonable numbers are?

Apple gbio14 Jul 30, 2019

Did you try and look at last years numbers?

Microsoft galaxion1 OP Jul 30, 2019

Yes. My numbers are on the high end of that range but I'm expecting them to counter around 50k/150k bonus and stock

A rule of thumb to come up with a number is not to look for a soothing arbitrary number, rather, logical (i.e. facts that are difficult to counter) re-arrangement of the compensation structure so that it reaches your soothing number, if not matches or surpasses. Factor in your fickle decay rate i.e. some arbitrary time before which you wouldn't want to leave your current company even if get a 30% offer at a similar class company.

Is it sign on bonus or annual? Btw when i joined Microsoft at level 60 I also had $110 k base.... and $5 k stock 😂 it was still a great way to start my career

Lol i was a recent intern from a tiny startup on a visa. I doubled what i was making and got a Green Card, so i think it was an amazing opportunity for me, not everything can be counted. Current TC: $375

That's a great offer mate, but I would still ask - the worst they can say is no
