Is it just me, or do companies in Austin, TX treat every potential candidate like they don’t exist? I’ve never had so many companies be so silent. I know for a fact, senior PM friend here in Austin has experienced the same thing. He had a recent interview, out of state! I I have had one person reply to me, out of state! This is coming from someone with big client experience in design, solid resume and portfolio. Maybe it’s not just Austin, is this how things are now with most companies in tech unless you are buds with someone on the inside? Or maybe I just need to throw more applications out there, and be aggressive about it. 🤔😤
That’s because Austin doesn’t want any more techies migrating and fucking up their housing prices. I recently visited and that’s an extremely open hostility against Bay Area/Seattle/NYC folks.
Lol.. but I’m already here, and have experience working at companies in Austin.
lol idk then
Honestly I think it's just a frenzy of activity right now in most Austin companies... Tons of resumes, tons of positions and very little time to sort through it all. Anything you can do to stand out vs the 1000 other online submissions will help!
The hate against the west coast folks is somewhat real but not applicable to OP.
Actually I lived on west coast for over ten years.. but grew up here in Texas. I have had these jobs and connections in Austin since moving back. But I do wonder if people still look at my resume and think they don’t want to bother because of that.. I can’t imagine someone would be thinking that though. Or would they? 😕
The hate is definitely real against California folk.
I find it hard to believe tech and design companies in Austin share this sentiment. Perhaps locals and non-tech feel this acutely, but frankly that’s now become standard for places with tech moving in. Sadly.

Women, help me understand why this is inspirational
My experience has primarily been the radio silence or the recruiters that call me at their leisure without setting up a meeting beforehand (as if I don’t have a job or meetings during the work day). Every once in a while though there have been companies that contact me seriously. So I guess it’s just a numbers game like anywhere else; just keep applying!
