Anyone can update if Red Hat got affected by IT market lay-offs , occurs on other top tech IT vendors?
No layoffs yet, but there are some warning signs: - hiring freezes - budget cuts (business travel, etc) - restructurings - talks of “efficiency” - increased attrition with little to no plans to fill those roles - promotions taking longer than they used to - bosses telling employees they can not guarantee any interesting career opportunities for the foreseeable future - dev teams getting smaller and smaller but the workload stays the same or increases because of the lack of support. This is what I’ve seen so far. edit: more warning signs from the most recent meeting: - bonuses being cut - talks of ranking employees - managers being told to initiate "performance conversations" - salary increase freeze - hiring freeze for non-critical roles
Hiring freeze started back when other companies were hiring like crazy, so at least we didn't overhire like everyone else. Anecdotally promotions seem to be happening at the same pace.... at least in my circle. Same deal for the career opportunities. They are looking to move people from teams that aren't of value to teams that are of value now. Maybe time to think of a move?
Isn’t it the case with most of the companies at the moment?
Red hat won't be doing mass layoffs but they are trying to increase turnover because it's so low
IBM does a lot of consulting. When they cut contract, they usually don’t get the spotlight because it’s typical for consulting to do so. Some IBM partners get passively aggressive messages from laid off people on Linkedin.
The IBM earnings report this week should be one to follow. That said, IBM hasn’t had the share price destruction that most other big tech cos have, so there might not be the same pressures. There is no hiring freeze at the moment, but they are definitely watching dollars and there have been smaller “re-alignments”. There definitely was over hiring at RH too, but not in engineering. I think they’ll do what they can to avoid a mass layoff, but quiet reductions that don’t make the news will likely continue.
Does location affect the decision example USA, eruope, middle east, ect..?
Any updates? Red hat seems to be posting new jobs regularly at least lately
I talked to Red Hat recruiter earlier this month who confirmed hiring freeze started Q2. I noticed a significant drop in new job postings after March 30.
Now Yes!
Only 4% will be for administrative domains no direct customer sales or product team will be affected
Yes
IBM and companies haven't been hit yet , but probably will in my totally uneducated opinion.
Great Thanks for your reply so Red Hat till now is safe and not affected
